LeaderLynx – Attacked in Life’s Jungle?

by Jul 6, 2012

A few days ago I had a very challenging day.  I just hopped out of the shower when my phone rang.  It was my wife, very shaken but okay after hitting a deer, swerving and then going down a small embankment.  Fortunately she survived the ordeal without a scratch, but her car, not so much.  My father-in-law’s response?  “Was it a buck or a doe?”  She wasn’t amused.

As I was tossing my briefcase in the car to head her direction, the phone rang again.  It was a client with a major issue – major issue.  I found myself throughout the day bouncing back and forth – solving challenges for others.  I, like many others get so wrapped up in my own ‘To Do’ list that I don’t often enough pause to think how I can serve those around me.  I don’t seek opportunities to help as much as I should.

But then I remember the words of Emily Dickinson, “If I can ease one life the aching, or cool one pain, or help one fainting robin, up to his nest again, I shall not live in vain.”  By serving others we make a true impact on our world.  Serve today.

Oh, and in case you, like my father-in-law, are wondering, it was indeed a buck (no, she didn’t think to count the points).  And it fared a far better day than the car.  It scampered on into the woods unscathed.  My father-in-law?  He’s getting the silent treatment… for now.  Better him than me.
