The hike starts from the Little River Trailhead in Elkmont, where you can see some of the old homes that were part of the Appalachian Club, a wealthy resort that existed before the national park was established. You will follow the Little River Trail for about 2.5 miles, passing by Huskey Branch Falls, a 20-foot cascade that flows into the river. Along the way, Dan will share some stories and tips about hiking and surviving in the wilderness.

At the Cucumber Gap Trail junction, you will turn right and loop back to Elkmont via Jakes Creek Trail. This part of the hike is more secluded and peaceful, and you might spot some river otters or other animals. You will also visit the Avent Cabin, a historic structure that was built by a local artist in 1850. The cabin is decorated with paintings and carvings that reflect the beauty of the Smokies.
